GREENVILLE, N.C. - The Ladyjacks trailed by only two points at halftime despite turning the ball over 14 times. SFA was able to hang in the game by shooting 12-of-24 (.500) from fied, including three three-pointers. The Ladyjacks also out-rebounded ECU, 19-14. But in the second half the Lady Pirates shot 58 percent from the floor, including a 34-point night from Jennifer Jackson to hold onto the lead.
SFA trailed by as many as 15 points with just over six minutes remaining but the Ladyjacks battled back to close to within five points with 57 seconds left. Junior Britany Vinson scored 15 points on 6-of-8 shooting and senior Alex Bowman added 13 points to spark the SFA rally. But the Ladyjacks could get no closer as the Lady Pirates out-rebounded SFA, 28-9 in the second half, and hit there free-throws down the stretch to ice the game.
Senior Jaliyla Muhammad added 11 points and five rebounds. Mills also pulled down five rebounds to tie Muhammad for the team-high.
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday against Jackson State in the consolation game of the Lady Pirate Classic. The game against the Lady Tigers is scheduled to begin at noon.
