
Softball Adds Three New Signees

NACOGDOCHES, Texas-- Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball coach Jennifer Poulsen has announced the signing of three student-athletes during the November early signing period. SFA has added a junior college transfer who will join the team in January and two high school signees who will join the team next fall.
Kristina Swart, a transfer from Blinn Junior College in Brenham, will join the team in the spring semester and could see action in the spring season. The Mont Belvieu native was a first team all-region performer as an outfielder at Blinn last season, batting .491 for the year and posting a .621 on-base percentage.
Swart was a four time all-district selection as barbers Hill High School and also earned all-state and district MVP honors as a senior. She holds the Barbers Hill High School stolen base record stealing 53 bases in 54 attempts during her career.
Kari Hugie, a senior at Washington High School in Greenville, Miss., also signed with SFA and will enroll for classes next fall. Hugie has posted a 111-24 record over three years as a high school starter, including a 30-6 record last year as a junior. She pitched 224 innings while striking out 418 and walking only 34 batters. She also hit .573 for the year and hit .510 as a sophomore.
The `Jacks also added a catcher and utility player from Clear Creek High School when Kimberly Daley agreed to play softball and continue her education at SFA next fall. Daley earned all-district honors last season as a catcher while appearing in 32 games. Daley hit .253 last year, but posted a .650 on-base percentage. Daley also lettered in volleyball at Clear Creek and earned best overall player honors while serving as a team captain.
SFA opens its spring season Feb. 4 at the Gamecock Invitational Tournament, hosted by the University of South Carolina. TM
