NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team lost to rival Sam Houston State, 71-61, Wednesday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 2-14 (.125) overall and 2-4 (.333) in conference play.
Sam Houston State roared out of the gates building an 8-0 lead within the first 2:30 minutes of the contest. But for the rest of the first half SFA battled the Bearkats for an advantage. SHSU built back a four-point advantage only to see SFA tie the game at 21 with 6:09 remaining in the contest. But the Bearkats closed the half on a 10-1 run sparked by Stacy Allen's 27 points. Sam Houston State went into the locker room up, 31-22.

In a complete reversal from the first half, the Ladyjacks opened on an 11-2 run, led by sophomore LaToya Mills' nine points and nine rebounds tying the game at 33 with 15 minutes remaining. But the Ladyjacks couldn't keep the momentum as SHSU forged back out in front by eight points. The Bearkats pushed their advantage to 20 points, 66-46, before SFA made one last rally with 3:34 on the clock.
Junior Tiffany Perkins scored 12 of her team-high 14 points in the second half to rally the Ladyjacks to within 10 points, but it was too little, too late as Sam Houston State held on for the 10-point win.
