McNeese State Sweeps Ladyjacks

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team dropped a doubleheader to McNeese State Saturday at the Coy Sims Softball Complex. McNeese State shutout SFA, 2-0, in both games. The Ladyjacks are now 21-20 (.512) overall and 8-9 (.471) in Southland Conference play.
McNeese State's Stephanie Denham put the Cowgirls on the scoreboard with a solo homerun in the top half of the second inning off the Ladyjacks' Crissy Autry. Two batters later McNeese State added to its lead when Sarah Holt added a solo shot. The Cowgirls were able to make the lead stand up, as SFA was only able to record four hits in the game.
Autry took the loss for SFA despite going seven innings and surrendering only two runs on seven hits.
In the second game, the Cowgirls' Nicole Edlund got MSU on the scoreboard in the top half of the third inning when she walked with one out. She was advanced to second when Rikki Fontenot grounded into a fielder's choice. Edlund then stole third base and scored on the single by Stephanie Denham. The Cowgirls added an insurance run in the top half of the second to take a 2-0 lead.
The Ladyjacks tried to rally in the bottom of the fourth inning, trailing only 1-0, SFA had runners at first and third with two outs but pitcher Devin Cobb was grounded out to end the inning.
Cobb suffered the loss in the second game. She surrendered two runs and scattered six hits over seven innings.
The Ladyjacks return to the field Sunday to close out the three-game series with McNeese State. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m., from the Coy Simms Complex.
