
Ladyjacks' D Does it Again

HUNTSVILLE - Freshman LaToya Mills recorded a career-high 23 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead the Ladyjacks past Sam Houston State Saturday, 73-55. The Ladyjacks improved to 12-11 overall and 12-4 in Southland Conference play.
The Ladyjacks jumped out of the gate early against Sam Houston State, building an 18-point advantage, 31-13. SFA's defense came to play again as it held the Bearkats to a 6-of-23 performance (.261) in the first half. The Ladyjacks also outrebounded SHSU, 30-12 in the first half, pulling down 13 offensive rebounds.
But is was a different story in the second half as SFA came out flat and Sam Houston State took advantage. The Bearkats went on a 12-0 run to start the half to tie the game at 33. But the Ladyjacks didn't panic and rebuilt its advantage back to 17 points behind Mills' career-high effort. Freshman Kirby Killingsworth chimed in for 11 points and nine rebounds.
Once the Ladyjacks rebuilt their lead, they didn't looked back rolling to the 73-55 victory. SFA held the league's leading scorer, Alice Johnson, in check, allowing her only 13 points. Senior Nathesia Wright finished the game with 10 points on 4-of-14 shooting for SFA. She also pulled down eight rebounds. Classmate Amy Collins also finished the game with 10 points. Collins also recorded six rebounds and four blocks.
The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday against Texas-San Antonio. The game is slated to tipoff at 6 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
