
Ladyjacks Roll by Lamar

BEAUMONT, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team got back to .500 Thursday night with a 65-42, victory over Lamar. The Ladyjacks are now 11-11 overall and 11-4 in the Southland Conference.
Lamar jumped out to a 7-2 lead but SFA battled back to tie the game at nine, on a jumper by senior Nathesia Wright (Arlington, Texas) with 13:01 remaining in the half. The Ladyjacks took the lead and then turned up the defensive pressure holding the Cardinals to a 9-of-31 (.290) performance in the first half. The Ladyjacks rode that defensive effort to a 27-20 halftime advantage.
In the second half, the Ladyjacks turned up the offense as SFA pushed its lead to 24 points, 56-32, behind freshman Kirby Killingworth's (Longview, Texas) team-high 12 points. Senior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas) made it tough on Lamar in the post, recording a school-record eight blocks. Collins also finished the game with 10 points and four rebounds.
The Ladyjacks didn't change anything defensively in the second half, holding the Cardinals to a 13-of-53 (.245) performance for the game, while forcing 15 turnovers. The Ladyjacks did a solid job of taking care of the ball, recording only six turnovers. SFA finished the game 26-of-65 (.400) from the floor.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday against Sam Houston State. The game is slated to tipoff at 4 p.m., from the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum in Huntsville, Texas.
