NACOGDOCHES - Freshman LaToya Mills (Houston, Texas) scored a game-high 17 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds to lead the Ladyjacks to a 62-45 victory over Nicholls State Thursday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks improved to 9-11 (.450) overall and 9-4 (.692) in the Southland Conference.
Nicholls State jumped out to an early five-point lead and held the advantage over SFA until the 5:03 mark of the first half when Mills scored two of her 17 points to give SFA a 22-20 advantage. The Ladyjacks increased their advantage to eight, 34-26, heading into halftime.
The Ladyjacks opened the second half on a 15-4 run to take a commanding 57-37 lead. Once the Ladyjacks got the lead, they never looked back. The SFA defense forced Nicholls State into 30 turnovers while holding the Lady Colonels to a 13-of-57 (.228) performance from the floor. NSU also struggled from beyond the three-point arc hitting only 3-of-25 (.167) attempts.
Mills was the only Ladyjack to record double-figure points but senior Nathesia Wright (Arlington, Texas), freshmen Kirby Killingsworth (Longview, Texas) and Kendria Smith (Shreveport, La.) each added eight. Killingsworth also pulled down eight rebounds. Nicholls State was led by Crescent Washington who led the Lady Colonels with 14 points and nine rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday against Southeastern Louisiana. The game is slated to tipoff at 6:15 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
