Golden Hurricane Too Strong for Ladyjacks

TULSA, Okla. - Despite a 14-point, 13-rebound effort from sophomore LaToya Mills, the Ladyjacks lost to Tulsa, 73-56, Wednesday afternoon at the Donald W. Reynolds Center. The Ladyjacks are now 0-10 on the season.
Tulsa led by four-points early before sophomore Britany Vinson came off the bench to spark the Ladyjack offensive attack. Vinson scored five consecutive points to help SFA claim a one-point advantage, 7-6, with 14:58 remaining in the first half. Vinson was 5-of-8 (.625) in the first half but the rest of the Ladyjack offense struggled, going 4-for-20 (.200).
Despite the Ladyjacks' first-half offensive woes, and a 20-point first-half performance by Tulsa's Becky Heidotten, the Ladyjacks only trailed TU, 30-24, at halftime. The Ladyjacks didn't allow a three-point basket and forced Tulsa into 13 turnovers in the opening stanza.
The Golden Hurricane scored 11 of the games first 18 points in the second half to build a 10-point advantage with 15:46 remaining. Tulsa's Megan Moody picked up in the second half where Heidotten left off, scoring 14 of her 16 points in the final half. The Ladyjacks were also hurt in the second half by 15 turnovers, as the Golden Hurricane increased its lead to as many 23 before the Ladyjacks made a late rally.
Vinson led the Ladyjacks with 16 points. Freshman Nikki Carr added seven points and led the Ladyjacks with seven steals and six assists.
Heidotten led the Golden Hurricane with 26 points and eight rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Thursday, Jan. 8th, when they travel to Natchitoches, La., to open the Southland Conference season against Northwestern State. The game against the Lady Demons is scheduled to begin at 5:45 p.m., from Prather Coliseum.
