JONESBORO, Ark. - Despite a career-high 23 points on 8-of-15 shooting from junior Alex Bowman, the Ladyjacks fell to Arkansas State, 91-73, Sunday afternoon at the Convocation Center. The Ladyjacks are now 0-8 in 2003-04.
Arkansas State jumped out to a 6-0 lead after turning two consecutive turnovers into four points. But the Ladyjacks got on the scoreboard when sophomore LaToya Mills hit a layup with 16:24 in the first half. The Ladyjacks settled down after that and traded baskets with ASU over then next four minutes.
The Indians led, 17-13, with 12:28 remaining in the first half when they went on a 14-5 run to take a 13-point advantage, 29-16, with 8:23 remaining in the first half. The Indians held their lead taking a 48-34 advantage into halftime.
Arkansas State came out in the second half and increased its advantage to as many as 34 points, 83-49, behind Adrianne Davie's 19 points. The Ladyjacks responded with a rally late in the contest to cut the lead to 18 points behind 10 points from Mills and freshman Nikki Carr. But the rally came up short as the Indians held on for the victory.
The Ladyjacks return to action Sunday Dec. 28th, when they return to the William R. Johnson Coliseum to take on Arkansas. The game against the Lady Razorback is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
