Ladyjacks Head to Arkansas State

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team will be in Jonesboro, Ark., Sunday Dec. 21st, looking for their first win of the season as they take on Arkansas State. The Ladyjacks' lone game of the week is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., from the Convocation Center.
SFA vs. the Indians: The Ladyjacks lead the all-time series, 2-0, against Arkansas State. Sunday's game will be the first meeting between the schools since the 1996-97 season when SFA recorded a 96-72 decision. The only other meeting came in the 1992-93 season when SFA defeated the Indians, 78-58.
Radio Broadcast: The Ladyjacks game at Arkansas State on Sunday, and against Arkansas on Sunday Dec. 28th, will be broadcast on KYKS 105.1, instead of Q107, due to time conflicts with the Dallas Cowboys. The Ladyjack broadcasts will return to Q107 when the Ladyjacks face Tulsa on Wednesday Dec. 31st.
Tradition of Winning: The SFA Ladyjack basketball program has been one of the most dominant in women's basketball history. The Ladyjacks are among the nation's all-time top 10 with 729 wins. The Ladyjacks are also among the all-time top 10 with a .746 winning percentage (729-248).
Tradition of Winning in the SLC: As dominant as SFA has been nationally, they have been just as dominant in the Southland Conference. The Ladyjacks are the conference's most dominant team, compiling a 249-25 (.909) all-time record. SFA has won 14 of a possible 16 SLC tournament titles and 13 regular-season titles. SFA has also recorded four undefeated seasons in league play and has had 36 players named All-SLC.
Strength of Schedule: SFA entered the 2003-04 season facing the nation's 12th-toughest non-conference schedule. The upcoming game against Arkansas State is more proof of how tough the Ladyjacks schedule is. The Indians enter the week listed among the "others receiving votes" category in the ESPN/USA Today women's basketball top-25 poll. The Ladyjacks have now faced three teams ranked among the nation's top 25 and Arkansas State will be the third team that has been listed among the "others receiving votes" category.
Dominating the Glass: Sophomore LaToya Mills continues to be a monster on the glass for the Ladyjacks. Mills led all players with her 11 rebounds in the game against Oklahoma. The 11 rebounds ties a season-high which she set at Rice. Mills is currently tops on the team and eighth in the Southland Conference averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.
More Rebounding News: The Ladyjacks recorded a season-high 38 rebounds against 17th-ranked Oklahoma on Saturday. The Ladyjacks neutralized the Sooners size advantage on the glass being outrebounded by only one, 39-38.
Great Brit: Sophomore Britany Vinson was a spark for the Ladyjacks coming off the bench against Oklahoma. Vinson scored a season-high 18 points on 7-of-12 (.583) shooting against the Sooners. She was also 4-of-7 (.571) from beyond the three-point arc. Vinson also pulled down three rebounds and dished out an assist in 33 minutes of action. Vinson currently leads the team and is fourth in the conference with a .444 three-point field-goal percentage. She is currently second on the team with eight three-point field goals.
POW: Sophomore point guard Britany Vinson was named Southland Conference Player of the Week for her role in the Ladyjacks game against Oklahoma. Vinson came off the bench to lead SFA with 18 points on 7-of-12 (.583) shooting. She was also 4-of-7 (.571) from beyond the three-point arc.
Sharp-Shooter: Sophomore guard Kirby Killingsworth knocked down two three pointers against 17th-ranked Oklahoma. With the two three-pointers, Killingsworth now has 60 for her career. The 60 three-pointers places her seventh all-time in school history. After a slow start, Killingsworth is now 11th in the Southland Conference averaging 1.43 three-pointers per game.
The Defense Doesn't Rest: The 17th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners came into their game against SFA shooting 40 percent from three-point land but the Ladyjacks held the Sooners to one of their worst three-point shooting performances of the season. Oklahoma was only 3-of-18 (.167) from behind the three-point arc in the game.
Heating Up: After averaging 4.3 points per game and not scoring in double-figures through the team's first three games, sophomore Kirby Killingsworth is starting to heat up. She scored 10 points against Oklahoma marking the third time in the last four games that Killingsworth has recorded double-figures in points. Killingsworth is averaging 10.5 points per game during that stretch. She is also 10-for-31 (.323) from beyond the three-point line during the four-game span, compared to an 0-for-13 start in the team's first three games.
Starting Rotation: SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley makes good use of her bench. In the Ladyjacks seven games, 12 players have seen action. Of the 12 players, 11 are averaging at least 10 minutes per contest and 10 are averaging at least 16 minutes per contest. Nine of the 12 players have also been in the starting lineup as the Ladyjacks have used six different starting units in their seven games this season.
Looking Ahead ... The Ladyjacks will return to Nacogdoches from their Christmas break to face Arkansas on Sunday Dec. 28th. The game against the Lady Razorbacks is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks will close out the month of December on the road against Tulsa. The Ladyjacks are scheduled to tipoff against the Golden Hurricane at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 31st from the Donald W. Reynolds Arena.
