Ladyjacks Fall to Colorado State

NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team fell to 0-2 Monday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum losing to Colorado State, 72-57.
The Ladyjacks struggled offensively in the first half as Colorado State built a 14-point advantage. SFA was 8-of-24 (.333) from the floor in the first half, while turning the ball over 17 times. But the Ladyjacks were charged with 19 of the games 33 first-half fouls, which kept the Ladyjacks from finding their rhythm offensively. Colorado State maintained its advantage and went into the intermission leading, 39-25.
The Rams increased their advantage to 19 points before SFA made a charge led by its freshman class. SFA cut the lead to 11 points, 54-43, with 8:59 remaining in the contest, sparked by Nikki Carr's team-high nine points on a perfect 3-of-3 performance from beyond the three-point arc. Classmate Evelyn Edwards came off the bench to add eight points and five rebounds, all coming in the second half. The Ladyjacks forced the Rams into 13 second-half turnovers to claw their way back in the game, but their momentum was neutralized by the foul situation in the second half as well. SFA was charged with 33 fouls on the night.
Lindsay Thomas' 17 points led the Rams, while teammate Joy Jenkins added 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Sophomore LaToya Mills tied Carr with a team-high nine points and tied Edwards with a team-high five rebounds.
The Ladyjacks will be in Durham, N.C., Saturday and Sunday to compete in the Duke Women's Basketball Classic. SFA will face tournament-host No. 4 (ESPN/USA Today poll) Duke at 3 p.m.
