Ladyjacks Fall to Texas-San Antonio

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team lost its first conference game of the season Wednesday night. Texas-San Antonio defeated the Ladyjacks, 64-50. The Ladyjacks are now 7-8 overall and 7-1 in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks scored the game's first field goal on a three-pointer by senior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas). UTSA responded by scoring the game's next 10 points to take a 10-3 advantage. The Ladyjacks were victimized by poor shooting in the first half, connecting on 7-of-24 (.292) shots in the opening stanza. UTSA went into halftime with a 30-17 lead. The Roadrunners were led by Tanisha Jackson who scored eight first-half points. She finished with a game-high 15 points.
SFA opened the second half on a 6-0 run led by consecutive jumpers from senior Nathesia Wright (Arlington, Texas). Wright finished the game with a team-high 13 points. The Ladyjacks cut the lead to seven only two minutes into the second half but UTSA responded with a run of its own to push its advantage to 16 points. UTSA held on to the lead for its second all-time victory in the series.
Freshman LaToya Mills (Houston, Texas) finished the game with eight points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Jamie Boles (Keller, Texas) finished with eight points and three rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday against Texas-Arlington. The game against the Mavericks is slated to tipoff at 4 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students.
