
'Jacks Fall To Louisiana Tech In Extra Innings

The SFA softball team fell to 7-40 on the season with a pair of non-conference losses Thursday evening in Ruston, Louisiana as they fell to Louisiana Tech by scores of 4-0 and 4-3. The 4-3 loss in game two was in eight innings. SFA is 2-1 in extra inning games this season.
Devin Cobb (3-12) lost game one inspite of allwoing only five hits in six innings of work. Cobb scattered the five hits, giving up four runs and walking a batter. SFA could manage only a pair of hits off Tech's Lindsey Meadows, who worked seven innings giving up only two hits while striking out six. Ragen Rutherford and Brooke Chandler were the only SFA players with hits in game one.
In the nightcap, SFA scored an unearned run inthe first inning following a lead-off single by Meryl McGuire. She was moved to second on a sacrifice by B.J. Cruff, then scored on an error on another sacrifice attempt by Mim Van Ryn.
The 'Jacks went up 2-0 in the second inning when Brooke Chandler connected for her second home run of the season.
Tech evened the score at 2-2 with single runs in the second and third innings, then went ahead in the bottom of the fifth inning as they put a run on the board with two hits and a stolen base.
SFA once again responded with a run in the sixth inning to tie the score at 3-3 when Ragen Rutherford singled home B.J. Cruff after Cruff started the inning with a walk.
Cobb (3-13) also took the loss in game two, working two innings in relief of Traci Moore. Cobb allowed one run on a hit in two innings of work. Moore started and worked five innings, giving up three runs on nine hits while striking out three.
Tech scored in the bottom of the eight inning for the win.
