The 'Jacks (5-27, 1-5) fell to the Cowgirls of McNeese State University (11-13, 5-1) Monday afternoon by a 1-0 final to move to 1-5 in Southland Conference play. With the win, McNeese State wins the series, two games to one.
SFA allowed one run in the bottom of the first inning following a lead-off single by McNeese State's Jaime Manuel. Manuel then stole second, went to third on a sacrifice and scored on a fly ball off the bat of Heather Moreaux.
Traci Moore (2-9) pitched the distance for SFA allowing the single run on three hits, while striking out two. SFA committed two errors behind Moore, but neither led to McNeese State runs.
Corrie Hale meanwhile managed to dodge bullets on a couple of occasions as she scattered five hits in handing the 'Jacks their second shutout in Southland Conference action. SFA threatened in the fourth inning as Devin Cobb singled with one out. Yvette Bass came on to run for Cobb and was moved to second on a walk to Kacie Lancaster. Bass was caught by McNeese State as SFA tried the double steal for the second out in the inning. Sarah Stone then walked to set up runners at first and second. Ragen Rutherford then singled, but Lancaster was thrown out trying to score on the hit.
The 'Jacks also threatened again in the seventh inning as Kacie Lancaster reached after being hit by a pitch. Satah Stone followed with a single before Rutherford advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Hale came back to get two straight strikeouts to end the threat and end the game.
SFA returns to action this Thursday as the team travels to Corpus Christi for a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader with Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.
