Ladyjacks Beat Louisiana-Monroe Senior Latisha Prater, junior Amy Collins record double-doubles
NACOGDOCHES - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team had little trouble getting by Louisiana-Monroe Saturday night, picking up an 86-54 victory. The Ladyjacks extended their win streak to a season-high 12 games and improved to 20-5 (.800 winning percentage) and 17-1 (.944) in the Southland Conference. It is the 24th time in school history that the Ladyjacks have won at least 20 games in a season.
The Lady Indians hung in the game early, trailing by only five points with 8 minutes and 57 seconds remaining in the first half. Amy Faust kept ULM close with her 13 points and seven rebounds but the Ladyjacks when on a 17-8 run to close out the half and go into the intermission with a 38-24 lead.
SFA extended the lead in the second half in the same manner that Ladyjack fans have come to expect from a Lee Ann Riley coached team, by forcing turnovers. The Ladyjacks forced ULM into 27 miscues and that would be all SFA needed as five Ladyjacks recorded double figure points. Senior Chaquita Dilworth (Temple, Texas) led all scorers with her 20 points. She also added nine rebounds. Classmate Latisha Prater (Cottonport, La.) scored 13 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to record her third consecutive double. Junior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas) also joined the act with a 12-point, 10-rebound performance. Senior Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) just missed a double-double with her 10-points and eight rebounds.
The SFA victory now sets a No.1 vs. No. 2 showdown for the Southland Conference title Monday night against Northwestern State. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum. Admission is free to students and fans that show up to the William R. Johnson Coliseum 30 minutes prior to the tipoff.
