The SFA softball team looks to snap a 10-game losing streak Thursday evening with a twi-night doubleheader in Waco, against the Baylor Bears. SFA, 3-10 on the year, will meet Baylor for the third and fourth times this season. The Bears are 2-0 against SFA this year, and hold a slim 17-16 advantage in the all-time series. The Lady Bears have won three straight against SFA dating back to last season. Baylor defeated SFA 5-2 in the quarterfinals of the UTA College Classic two weeks ago, and the Lady Bears downed SFA 7-2 last Friday at the Houston Invitational. SFA leads the series 9-7 in Waco.
IF Meryl McGuire continues to pace the SFA offensive attack, batting .375 for the season. Devin Cobb had good weekend this past weekend in Houston as she hit an even .400 for the Houston tournament, with a home run and four RBIs.
SFA must find a way to score runs however as the team has been shutout six times in the current ten game losing streak.
Injuries are the biggest concern for first year head coach Jennifer Poulsen as she continues to juggle her lineup to replace OF Jaime Brown and infielder Ragen Rutherford. Rutherford is expected back, possibly as early as this weekend, but Brown has been lost for the season with a knee injury. IF Crista Hargrove also broke the knuckle of her right index finger last week as she fouled off a pitch and will miss at least four weeks of play.
SFA opens the home portion of its schedule March 2, playing host to Southwest Texas in an SLC match-up.
