Ladyjacks Hammer UTA SFA increases win streak to nine consecutive
ARLINGTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks cruised to a 78-45 mauling of Texas-Arlington Monday in Texas Hall. The Ladyjacks are now 17-5 overall and 14-1 in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks jumped out the gate quick against Texas-Arlington forcing 15 first-half turnovers, to bury the Mavericks in a 33-14 hole at halftime. SFA rode the back of seniors Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) and Latisha Prater (Cottonport, La.) who scored a combined 24 points in the opening half of action.
The Mavericks went on an 8-0 run to open the second half, cutting the Ladyjack advantage to 33-22, but SFA head coach Lee Ann Riley quickly called a timeout less than 50 seconds in the half to stifle the UTA momentum. The Ladyjacks went on a 21-4 run midway through the second half to put the game out of reach. Guild and Prater led the way with 19 points each. Prater also added seven assists. Senior Chaquita Dilworth (Temple, Texas) added 18 points on 7-of-8 (.875 percent) shooting. Senior Nicole Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) added 11 points and four steals in the victorious effort.
The Mavericks were paced Sheena Johnson's 11 points and nine rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Saturday at Sam Houston State. The game against the Ladykats is scheduled to tipoff at 4 p.m., from the Bernard G. Johnson Coliseum.
