NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin head softball coach Jennifer Poulsen announced today the signing of two student-athletes to letters of intent to play softball and continue their education at the university next fall. Poulsen has received signed commitments from Heather Hebert, a middle infielder from St. Martinville, La. and Chelsea Lundberg, an outfielder from Antelope, Calif. Both will enroll at the university in the fall of 2003.
?It?s great to be able to sign student-athletes the caliber of these young ladies during the early signing period. Heather and Chelsea are both exceptional athletes, but not only that, both also possess the traits and characteristics of solid people. They will be great additions to our program, on and off the field,? said Poulsen.
Hebert has played both second base and shortstop during her career and will give SFA both depth and experience at both positions. She is a former all-district selection that hit .392 last season as a junior at St. Thomas Moore High School in St. Martinville, La.
Lundberg is the latest in a growing contingent of California based softball players on the SFA team. The left handed first baseman/outfielder will graduate from Roseville High School in Antelope, Calif. this spring. She is a three sport letterwinner, earning varsity letters in softball, volleyball and basketball. She hit .455 as a junior and led her team in RBIs, extra base hits and on-base percentage. She was also a member of the All-American Prep Program.
She has earned all-conference honors her first three years of high school and has served as a team captain. She was also crowned Homecoming Queen for 2002.
SFA opens its 2003 season February 1 with a doubleheader at Texas Southern.
