NACOGDOCHES - Senior Jennifer Wilson (Friendswood, Texas) made senior night a highlight in her career Tuesday. Not only did Wilson lead the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Texas-San Antonio, but she also recorded career kill No. 1,000 in the process. The Ladyjacks currently stand at 20-10 overall and 13-5 in the Southland Conference.
Wilson and classmate Angie Wood (Houston, Texas) led the Ladyjacks to a 30-19 win in game one with their four kills, each. Wilson kept up the onslaught adding six more kills in game two, including the milestone 1,000th kill. The Ladyjacks went into the halftime leading, 2-0.
SFA came out in the third game and put UTSA away in game three, 30-23. Wilson led the team with 13 kills and five blocks. Sophomore Brittany Burton (Livingston, Texas) added seven kills and five blocks. Wood finished the match with six kills, seven digs and three blocks. Senior setter Sunni Williams (Houston, Texas) finished off her final home match of the regular season recording four kills, eight digs, two blocks and dishing out 24 assists.
UTSA was led by Molly Lowery's team-high 10 kills, but the Roadrunners couldn't find an answer for the SFA's tough defense, hitting only .066.
"Winning our 20th match of the season is something we can take pride in," said SFA head coach Debbie Humphreys. "That is something we expect to do here at SFA. We started the first half of the conference season a little shaky but we have cranked things up in the second round of conference matches."
The Ladyjacks hit the road for their final two matches of the regular season. SFA will be in Thibodaux, La., Friday Nov. 15, to take on Nicholls State. The match against the Colonels is slated to begin at 7 p.m., from Stopher Gym. The Ladyjacks will follow that up with a 4 p.m., match against Southeastern Louisiana the following day. The match against the Lady Lions will take place at the University Center.
