Ladyjacks Fall to Northwestern State Win streak snapped at six games
NATCHITOCHES, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team suffered its first conference loss of the season Monday night at Northwestern State, 67-42. The Ladyjacks are 8-5 (.615) overall and 5-1 (.833) in the Southland Conference.
Turnovers and poor shooting is what the game eventually came down to for SFA. The Ladyjacks shot only 18-60 (.300 percent) from the floor and only 2-16 (.125) from beyond the three-point arc. For the first time all season, the Ladyjacks struggled more than their opponent to hold onto the basketball, recording 16 turnovers while only forcing the Lady Demons into eight.
The Ladyjacks went into the intermission trailing by 12 points, 34-22, after a first half that saw both teams make offensive runs. But the Ladyjacks would get no closer than seven in the second half before the Lady Demons pulled away.
Northwestern State was led by Angela Davidson's game-high 28 points and 13 rebounds. NWLA's Anna Means followed that up with her career-high 15-point performance. Seniors Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) and Latisha Prater (Cottonport, La.) led SFA with 11 points and six rebounds each.
The Ladyjacks look to return to their winning ways Saturday against Sam Houston State. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 6:15 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
