Ladyjacks Hammer Sam Houston State Junior Amy Collins leads the way with a career-high 18 points
NACOGDOCHES -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team defeated Sam Houston State, 81-54, Saturday night at the William R. Johnson Coliseum. The Ladyjacks are now 9-5 (.643) overall and 6-1 (.857) in the Southland Conference.
The Ladyjacks wasted no time in putting the Bearkats away starting the game with a 12-0 run over the first six minutes and 18 seconds, sparked by a tenacious SFA defense. The Ladyjacks forced a season-high 36 turnovers against SHSU, led by senior Latisha Prater's (Cottonport, La.) nine steals. Prater had a career-game as she finished with 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assist to go with her nine picks. Junior Amy Collins (San Antonio, Texas) led all scorers with her career-high 18 points and nine rebounds.
The Bearkats were led by Paulette Valentine's 16 points and eight rebounds. Sam Houston State's Amy Barker finished the contest with a game-high 16 rebounds.
Senior Jessica Guild (Flower Mound, Texas) closed out the game with 16 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists. Twin sister, Nicole, added 10 points, seven steals and four rebounds.
The Ladyjacks return to action Monday night against Lamar. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m., from the William R. Johnson Coliseum.
