NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball team extended their winning streak to eight games after taking both ends of a Southland Conference doubleheader over the University of Louisiana at Monroe Sunday afternoon, 2-1 and 5-2.
With the wins, SFA also remains perfect at 5-0 in SLC play. The two teams will wrap up the three game series Monday at noon, at the Nacogdoches High School softball field.
The Lady Indians of UL-Monroe jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Lori Tande hit a solo shot to give UL-M the lead. The Ladyjacks came right back in their half of the first inning when Angela Froboese picked up the first of her three hits in game one. Freshman Kym Kling then tripled to drive Froboese in and knot the game at 1-1. Ashley Moffett then hit a sacrifice fly to center to score Kling and the Ladyjacks took a lead they would never relinquish.
Freshman Kristin Nolan then shut down ULM, going the distance as she scattered four hits, allowing only the one run while striking out four and walking one. Nolan is 2-1 (1-0) in picking up the win.
In game two, Lori Tande again started the scoring, this time with a two-run shot that game the Lady Indians a 2-0 lead after the first inning. SFA got on the board with a single run in the bottom of the second inning when Shannon Mori doubled home Ashley Moffett with two outs in the inning. SFA then added a single run in the third inning after LeKita Baker walked to lead things off. She later scored on a ringing double off the bat of Angela Froboese to pull the Ladyjacks even at 2-2.
SFA took the lead for good with a three run fourth inning, started by a Katie Taylor lead-off double. Taylor scored on a ground out by Devin Cobb to put SFA up by one. Baker then singled, stole second and third and scored on a Jaime Brown double. Brown scored later in the inning on another Angela Froboese single.
Devin Cobb went all seven innings for the Ladyjacks as she gave up the two runs on eight hits, while striking out two and walking two. Cobb moves to 5-2 on the year with the win.
On the afternoon, Angela Froboese was five for six with two RBIs and a run scored.
