NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin State University athletic director Steve McCarty announced today that Ladyjack head basketball coach Royce Chadwick has resigned his post to accept the head coaching position at Marshall University.
"We regret to see a coach that has enjoyed as much success as Royce leave, but we also want him to have every opportunity to reach the highest levels of achievement in his profession. Royce feels that a move at this time will give him that opportunity," said McCarty.
Chadwick has spent the last seven seasons as the head coach of the Ladyjack program, posting a 153-44 record, for a winning percentage of 77.7%. During that seven year span, the Ladyjacks also earned seven straight NCAA tournament appearances, extending the SFA school streak to fourteen straight tournament appearances.
He stands third on the all-time wins list in the history of the women's basketball program at the university, and is second on the all-time winning percentage list, behind Gary Blair.
Under Chadwick, SFA claimed six of seven regular season Southland Conference titles and six of seven post season SLC tournament titles. His teams led the conference in scoring on two separate occasions and this past year was among the top five in the country in scoring defense. His teams posted twenty-win seasons in six of the seven seasons under his direction.
In seven NCAA tournament appearances, Chadwick's teams posted a 4-7 tournament record.
A nationwide search for a replacement will begin immediately.
