Chicago State Beats Ladyjacks Poor shooting and turnovers doom SFA
AUBURN, Ala. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack basketball team lost Friday to Chicago State, 51-42, in the first round of the Kroger Thanksgiving Classic. SFA is now 0-2 on the season.
The Ladyjacks led early, 3-2, but went cold from the floor allowing the Cougars to a big first-half lead. The Ladyjacks shot only 6-of-31 (19.4 percent) from the field in the first half. SFA battled back to pull within five points behind junior Nathesia Wright's (Arlington, Texas) 10 points and nine rebounds. But it was not enough as 20 turnovers and a 17-of-61 (27.9 percent) shooting performance failed the Ladyjacks to a second consecutive loss to start the 2001-02 season.
The Cougars were led by Krisey Sanders who led all players with 19 points, on 7-of-14 from the field, and seven rebounds. The Ladyjacks Chaquita Dilworth also had a solid performance for SFA scoring seven points and grabbing nine rebounds.
SFA will close out the Kroger Thanksgiving Classic against Charleston Southern in the consolation game. The game is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m., from the Beard-Eaves Coliseum in Auburn, Ala.
