NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack softball coach Ruth Wright announced today the signing of two student-athletes to national letters of intent to continue their educations and play softball at SFA next fall. Sarah Stone a catcher and outfielder from Pasadena Sam Rayburn High School and Crista Hargrove, a shortstop from Midland Lee High School have inked with the program during the early signing period.
Both will join the team when they enter the university in the fall of 2001.
Stone has been an All-District performer at Pasadena Rayburn all three years in high school and enters her senior season following a junior year in which she was named the team's MVP, and was also a Wendy's High School "Heisman" All-American nominee. As a freshman in 1998, Stone was voted District 23-5A's Freshman of the Year.
Crista Hargrove is a two-time All-District 4-5A selection as a shortstop, and has helped her team to two straight playoff appearances. Midland Lee captured a district title in 1999 and finished as the district runner-up in 2000. In `99, Lee advanced to the regional semi-finals, and in 2000, Lee was an area semi-finalist. Hargrove is also a member of the National Honor Society and the National Spanish Honor Society. She has also played for two state championship summer league teams as a youth.
"I'm very excited about signing these two young ladies. Both will be great additions to our program and I'm looking forward to them arriving on campus," said Wright.
The Ladyjacks open the season February 6 at Centenary.
