Rosie Walker Named To The Women's Basketball Hall Of Fame

NACOGDOCHES, Texas -- The 2001 Women's Basketball Hall of Fame class has been named. Among the honorees will be Stephen F. Austin State University's Rosie Walker. The ceremony will take place June 8-9, at the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Walker played two years at Panola Junior College and then transferred to SFA under coach Sue Gunter. While helping Panola Junior College to a pair of National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) titles in 1977 and 1978, she was twice named a Junior College All-American. During the 1978 NJCAA tournament, Walker claimed MVP honors.
She played for SFA during the 1978-79 and 1979-80 seasons. Her two year career was filled with many honors. Walker set ten records at SFA including individual single season points scored 912, (1978-79), field goals made 395, (1978-79), field goal percentage .674, (1979-80) and best scoring average 26.0 (1978-79/ 912 in 35 games). Other records include most free-throws attempted in a single game, 17 vs. Penn State 2/1/80, rebounding leader 1979 with 448, rebounding leader 1980 with 354, scoring leader 1979 with 912 and scoring leader 1980 with 649.
Walker was named a two-time Kodak All-American while at SFA. During 1979 she represented the United States in the Pan American Games. She continued her success by being named a member of the 1980 U.S. Olympic Team.
After her career at SFA, Walker played professionally for the Nebraska Wranglers in the Women's Professional Basketball League. Her team won the league title in 1981. She averaged 26.0 points and 14.4 rebounds per game for the Wranglers while shooting 69.5 percent from the floor.
Members of the 2001 Women's Basketball Hall of Fame class also include Van Chancellor, Theresa Grentz, Phyllis Holmes, LaTaunya Pollard, Linda K. Sharp, C. Vivian Stringer, Vanya Voinova, Hazel Walker and Holly Warlick.
