Kassie James comes to Stephen F. Austin carrying plenty of coaching and playing experience throughout her career in softball. Kassie began her career as a two-year starter at third base for Angeline College where she broke six school records, was named a two-time NFCA All-American, and helped lead Angelina to a 2014 NJCAA National Championship. James was later inducted into the Angelina College Hall of Fame in 2016, and after two years at Angelina she would spend two years at Houston Baptist where she was a two-year starter at the hot corner for the Huskies. In 2017 and 2018 Kassie earned Southland Conference Honorable Mention honors and later graduated from Houston Baptist with a bachelor’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies.
 
Upon graduating from Houston Baptist, James would later go onto University of Dallas in 2018 where she served as an graduate assistant, assistant Softball Coach working specifically with pitchers while playing a large role in the recruiting effort, and graduated from University of Dallas with a Master of Leadership Degree. After a season with University of Dallas, Kassie would spend the 2019 season as an associate head coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger, Texas where she would work with both their pitchers and infielders while playing a role in recruiting and community outreach projects. After the conclusion of the 2019 season, Kassie would continue her coaching career as she would spend the 2020 season as an assistant coach at McNeese State University where she was tasked specifically with player development. The 2021 season took James to yet another school as she was named the Assistant Coach at University of Arkansas at Monticello where she helped lead the Blossoms to their first Great American Conference Tournament appearance in four years. The 2022 season took Kassie to the Rocky Mountains as she would accept a job with the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs for the 2022 season where she was named an Assistant Coach overseeing pitching primarily while assisting with scouting and recruiting. In 2023, James finally broke through and secured her first head coaching gig as she was tabbed the head coach of Otero Junior College in La Junta Colorado, and later was named an Assistant Softball Coach at SFA over the summer.
