Audrey Farfan came to SFA in July of 2016 and is currently in her third season as an assistant coach for the Ladyjacks. Working primarily with SFA’s batters, coach Farfan serves as the Ladyjacks’ first-base coach during games.
Farfan has had a direct impact on SFA’s remarkable turnaround in her two years working with the Ladyjacks. In 2018, SFA posted the most victories in a single season in 10 years, reaching the 30-win plateau for just the sixth time in the program's NCAA Division I history. Tied for the 13th-largest turnaround in all of Division I softball, the Ladyjacks completed the season with a 31-24 overall record after tying for second in the final Southland Conference standings with a 18-9 league mark. Earning the No. 2 seed for the Southland Tournament, SFA made just its second national postseason appearance by gaining the conference's automatic berth into the 2018 Postseason National Invitational Softball Championship (NISC).
With Farfan’s assistance, the Ladyjacks saw a much improved offensive performance at the plate during the 2018 season. SFA hit .261 as a team for the year, an increase from .233 in 2017, and saw its scoring nearly double from 121 runs scored in 2017 to 231 in 2018. The Ladyjacks also connected on 372 total hits, including 65 doubles, 14 triples and 33 home runs, compared to 298 hits and only 20 dingers in 2017.
Under Farfan’s guidance, senior third baseman Amber Landry claimed 2018 All-Southland First Team honors, while senior catcher Taylor Fraccastoro was named to the All-Southland Second Team and freshman second baseman Bryana Novegil and junior first baseman Margarita Corona earned All-Southland honorable mention accolades.
Landry hit .320 for the 2018 season, slugged at a mark of .552 and collected 58 hits, including 23 extra-base knocks with 13 doubles, nine home runs and a triple. She completed her career at SFA with a .307 batting average across two seasons, a slugging mark of .512, on-base percentage of .357, 65 RBI, 44 runs scored and 100 hits. Fraccastoro led the Ladyjacks with a .572 slugging mark in 2018 and notched a team-best 14 doubles, hitting .277 on the year with 44 hits, including a team-high 26 extra-base knocks. She finished her SFA career with 143 hits, 61 one of which went for extra bases, 113 runs scored, 105 RBI, 27 home runs and 28 doubles. Novegil led SFA in several offensive categories in 2018, including hitting (.381), on-base percentage (.503), hits (61), triples (6) and walks (26), while Corona recorded six go-head or game-winning hits as she connected on 46 hits, 17 of which went for extra bases, and drove-in 31 RBI.
In 2017, Farfan was instrumental in coaching junior catcher Amber Landry to All-Southland Conference Second Team honors as SFA claimed 17 wins and posted a 9-14 mark in league play.
Farfan worked under SFA head coach Nicole Dickson as an assistant at Tyler Junior College during the 2016 season, before accompanying Dickson in Nacogdoches. In just the second season of the TJC softball program’s existence, Farfan helped the Apache Ladies compile a 60-6 overall record, win a conference championship and record a fifth place finish at the national tournament. The coaching staff was named the Region 14 Coaching Staff of the Year for the abundance of team accomplishments.
Prior to coaching at TJC, Farfan attended Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Arkansas, where she played for the Lady Muleriders and claimed all-conference honors as a junior. Originally a native of Rockwall, Texas, Farfan was named First Team All-Great American Conference as a third baseman in 2013-2014 as the Lady Muleriders finished 37-26 and set 31 team and individual records. Farfan ranked in the top five on the team in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, runs scored, hits, RBI, doubles, total bases, sacrifice bunts, sacrifice flies and stolen base percentage. She also earned NFCA DII All-America Scholar-Athlete recognition and was named to the GAC All-Academic Team. During her senior season, the Lady Muleriders finished with a record of 26-24 while Farfan posted a batting average of .358. She was named to the GAC All-Academic Team and SAU’s President’s List the same year.
Before her time at SAU, Farfan attended Paris Junior College, in Paris, Texas, where she played under coach Dickson as a second-team all-region shortstop. She led the Lady Dragons to a Region 14 East Conference title, a regional championship and a NJCAA National Tournament appearance where the team tied for ninth. The postseason berth marked the first NJCAA National Tournament appearance by a Paris Junior College women's program. As a freshman in 2012, Farfan was named second-team all-conference as a catcher and earned the Vernon Carter Cup (MVP) award for the Lady Dragons after batting .371 for the year and playing 37 games behind the plate.
Farfan earned a bachelor’s degree of general studies with an emphasis in education, social science and natural science from SAU in August 2015, before receiving her Master of Science in kinesiology from SAU in August of 2017.
Audrey resides in Nacogdoches with her dog, Luke.
