RECAP: Ladyjacks Finish Texas Challenge with Sweep over Mavericks

Caroline Kahle and Jordan Henderson named to the Texas Challenge All-Tournament Team
NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin swept UT Arlington 3-0 on Saturday. The Ladyjacks closed the match with set scores of 25-18, 25-21 and 25-23, taking the lead in the third set after trailing 10-7.
After UTA scored the opening point, SFA took the next three on a Mavericks attack error, Molly Cravens' kill, and a block by Lara Gilardi and Cravens, then moved back ahead 6-3 after the visitors tied it at 3-3. Aniston Collins served back-to-back aces to push the lead to 9-4, but the Mavs worked back within 11-10 with Sophia Krichev recording two kills and SFA committing two attack errors during a four-point stretch. Avery Koonsen's kill made it 12-10, and after the teams traded points to 15-13, SFA scored four straight behind Kennedy Jones' kill, a UTA attack error, Jordan Henderson's kill, and another Mavericks error to make it 19-13. Katherine Holtman and Henderson added kills as SFA reached 21-14, and after UTA got as close as 23-18, Koonsen made it 24-18 before a block by Jones and Cravens closed the set 25-18.
After the second set was tied 4-4, SFA moved in front on a Holtman kill and a Gilardi kill for a 6-4 lead, then pushed the margin to 10-6 with a Koonsen kill and a Mavericks attack error. UTA stayed within 17-15 on a Lily Hopkins kill, but Jones answered with a kill and a bad set by Lucy Tricco gave SFA a 19-15 advantage. The Mavs cut it to 19-17 with a kill by Emilee Sikora and a Tricco ace, but Henderson's kill and back-to-back Jones service aces moved SFA ahead 22-17. SFA reached set point on Koonsen kill at 24-19, and after UTA scored the next two points, Madi Zorn closed the set with a setter dump kill for a 25-21 win.
UTA moved ahead 10-6 in the third set, getting kills from Mazi Smith on two points during the stretch. SFA erased the gap with a Mavericks service error and three attack errors, two involving Henderson blocks and one with Gilardi and Henderson, before UTA moved back in front 11-10 and Koonsen tied it at 11-11. After ties at 12-12 and 13-13, SFA moved back ahead behind kills from Jones, Henderson, Koonsen, and Gilardi to reach 20-17, but the Mavs trimmed the margin to 22-21. Jones answered at 22-21, Holtman put SFA at set point at 24-22, and after Evyn Snook kept UTA within one, Henderson finished the 25-23 set with a kill from Collins. The team achieved a hitting percentage of .308, exceeding their season average of .18.
