RECAP: Ladyjacks Fall to Bobcats

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin lost to Texas St. 3-0 (22-25, 22-25, 19-25) on Thursday. The Ladyjacks finished with 34 kills and a .178 hitting percentage, while the Bobcats totaled 52 kills and hit .358.
The Ladyjacks traded points with the Bobcats through a 6-6 tie, with Caroline Kahle recording two early kills and Kyanna Creecy evening the set off Madi Zorn's assist. The Bobcats moved ahead 12-7, but two Jordan Henderson-Katherine Holtman blocks and an Izzy Orton kill helped the Ladyjacks cut the margin to 13-11. Holtman later served two aces around an Avery Koonsen kill to pull the Ladyjacks even at 16-16, but the Bobcats scored the next six points to go up 22-16. The Ladyjacks answered with five straight points, including Koonsen kill, a Kahle kill and Molly Cravens' kill from Zorn, before the Bobcats closed the set 25-22.
The Ladyjacks moved in front 7-5 in the second set behind early kills from Kahle, Holtman and Koonsen, along with blocks involving Creecy, Holtman and Kahle. The Bobcats took the lead with a five-point stretch to go ahead 10-7 and later held a 16-13 edge before the Ladyjacks pulled even at 16-16 on a service error, a bad set and Koonsen's ace. Zorn's kill tied it 17-17, and after the Bobcats moved back ahead 19-17, Henderson's kill and Orton's ace tied the set again at 19-19. The Bobcats regained a 21-19 lead and stayed in front, with Koonsen's kill bringing the Ladyjacks within 23-22 before Peyton McKee recorded the final two kills for a 25-22 Bobcats set win.
Orton's ace and Henderson's kill gave the Ladyjacks a 2-0 start, but the Bobcats moved in front 5-3 and later held an 8-6 lead. Zorn assisted Kahle on kills that tied the set at 8-8 and 9-9, and Lara Gilardi and Kahle added consecutive kills to put the Ladyjacks ahead 11-9. The Bobcats pulled even at 12-12 and went ahead 16-14 before the Ladyjacks used a block by Creecy and Koonsen and back-to-back Koonsen kills to take a 17-16 lead. The teams were tied at 18-18 and 19-19, but the Bobcats scored the final six points, including consecutive Brooke Bentke kills and two Isabella Andrews kills, to take the set 25-19.
