
Ladyjacks Begin 2025 Campaign in San Antonio

NACOGDOCHES, Texas- The Stephen F. Austin Volleyball program begins their season at the UTSA Invitational where they face host UTSA on Friday, August 29 and Texas State on Saturday, August 30.
WHERE TO TUNE IN
• Friday's match against UTSA will be broadcasted on ESPN+ while Greg Miller will be live on sfavolleyblog.net for SFA's radio broadcast.
• Saturday's match against Texas State will feature Greg Miller on sfavolleyblog.net. There will be no broadcast for this match.
ABOUT THE LADYJACKS
• Debbie Humphreys led the 'Jacks to a 24-9 overall record and a NIVC Super Sixteen Appearance for their fifth NIVC appearance.
• With John Cook (NEB) and Mary Wise (FLA) announcing their retirements over the summer, Coach Humphreys is now one of two active coaches in Division I to win over 800 matches and is the only active coach to win 800 at one institution. She has the second most wins among active coaches with 846.
• The Ladyjacks played the 2024 season as the youngest roster in Division I with an average age of 18.46. Army followed with 19.00 and Utah State with a 19.63 average age.
• SFA got off to a hot start as they won their first five matches while only dropping one set.
• The 'Jacks hit a five-game skid before getting back on the horse with a 10-game win streak.
SCOUTING UTSA
• After finishing 12th in the American Conference last season with and 11-18 overall record, the Roadrunners are projected to finish 9th this season.
• UTSA lost their one all-conference selection and kill leader, Mia Soerensen to graduation, but return their number two and three kill leaders in Caroline Krueger and Ally Tribe.
• The Roadrunners will look to senior transfer setter, Ilaria Durante from Charleston Southern and returning junior, Makenna Wiepert to run the UTSA offense.
• Junior defensive specialist, Peyton Turner returns to the Roadrunners to hold down the defense as she finished the 2024 season second in digs.
• At the net, the Roadrunner lost their top three blockers from 2024.
SCOUTING TEXAS STATE
• The Bobcats finished the 2024 season with a 22-9 record a Sun Belt Conference Tournament Championship, and an NCAA Tournament appearance.
• Texas State returns their kill leader, junior outside hitter, Samantha Wunsch and First-Team All-SBC Selection and block leader, senior middle blocker, Jade Defraeye.
• This season the Bobcats received 11 first place votes and are picked to win the Sun Belt West Division.
• Defensively, Texas State lost their top three digs leaders from 2024.
• The Bobcats lost their primary setter from the 2024 season and will look to junior transfer Dyland Gilkey to run the Texas State offense.
SERIES HISTORY
• SFA holds a 32-10 record over UTSA including a 3-1 home win in September of 2024.
• Texas State holds a 33-22 advantage over SFA and have won the previous 10 matchups. The 'Jacks las win against the Bobcats came in November of 2006.
RETURNEE RUNDOWN
• The 'Jacks return 84.58% of their offense and 77.24% of their defense from the 2024.
• SFA's 11 returning players accounted for 89.58% of sets played, 94.89% of kills, 72.06% of digs, 74.31% of assists, 96.72% of blocks, 78.33% of aces, and 91.36% of points scored.
• All three First Team-SLC Selections return for the 2025 season.
'JACKS WELCOME SEVEN NEWCOMERS
• The 'Jacks add graduate transfer, Libero/DS Luna França (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colégio Eccelente/TWU) from Texas Women's University and graduate transfer Outside Hitter Ilana De Assis from UTRGV.
• Two more additions from the transfer portal are sophomores Zoe Gun, a setter from Trinity Valley CC, and Teagan Hill, a middle blocker from Arlington Baptist.
• Coach Humphreys added three true freshmen to the roster with Sydney Lafferty, Haley Peterson, and Brinkley Reeves.
2025 SCHEDULE HIGHLIGHTS
• The 'Jacks 2025 slate features three NCAA Tournament teams from last season; Texas State, Loyola Chicago, and SMU.
• SFA will host two home tournaments hosting Louisiana, Abilene Christian, and Sam Houston from September 4-6 followed by SMU and UTEP on September 18 and 20.
• The Ladyjacks will face a tough set of opponents at the Loyola Chicago tournament where they will match up with the Ramblers then Bowling Green before closing the tournament against Indiana on September 11-13.
• The Southland Conference slate for the Ladyjacks opens with the defending Tournament Champions, the Texas A&M-Corpus Christi Islanders and will wrap up with a home-and-home against Lamar before the conference tournament in Commerce.
