BEAUMONT, Texas- Stephen F. Austin (16-9, 10-2 Southland) defeated Lamar University (8-17, 5-7 Southland) 3-0 on Saturday, winning 25-22, 26-24, 25-15. SFA hit .361 with 45 kills, exceeding its season average of .240, and hit .667 without an attack error in the third set while holding the Cardinals to .195.

SFA trailed 7-4 in the first set before Molly Cravens, Avery Koonsen and Izzy Orton delivered kills around a Cardinals attack error to move in front 8-7. The teams traded swings through the middle of the set, with SFA going up 18-14 after a Cardinals error sequence before the Cardinals answered to tie it at 18-18 and later move ahead 21-19. SFA pulled even at 21-21 on kills by Koonsen and Cravens, and after the Cardinals tied the set at 22-22, Jordan Henderson put SFA back in front, a Cardinals attack error brought set point, then Henderson closed the set at 25-22.

After the Cardinals opened 2-0, SFA moved in front 3-2 on Avery Koonsen's kill and back-to-back blocks involving Katherine Holtman, Henderson and Caroline Kahle, and the set stayed even through 7-7. The Cardinals scored four straight points from there, and later pushed the margin to 21-16 on an ace and an SFA attack error. SFA worked back with a Holtman kill and a Henderson-Holtman block, and after the Cardinals went up 22-18, Kahle and Holtman had kills before Brinkley Reeves served consecutive aces to tie it at 22-22. The Cardinals reached set point at 24-23 on a kill, but SFA tied it on a Kyanna Creecy-Kahle block and finished the 26-24 set win with consecutive Koonsen kills.

SFA created the first separation in the third set after a 3-3 tie, using a Cardinals service error, two Cardinals attack errors, a Cravens kill from Reeves and a Kahle ace to move in front 8-3. The Cardinals worked the margin back to 14-11 but Cravens' kill from Orton was the first point of an eight-point SFA run. During that stretch, SFA scored seven straight points on Kahle's serve, with Cravens adding two more kills, Creecy and Koonsen contributing kills and SFA blocks helping push the lead to 22-11. A Lamar service error put SFA at set point at 24-14, and after the Cardinals' final point, Henderson finished the 25-15 set with a kill from Aniston Collins.
