BEAUMONT, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjacks (7-9, 2-4) lost the last game of their three-game series against the Lamar Cardinals (12-5, 2-4) this evening, 3-2.
This game started similar to the first two games of the series as neither offense could score any runs through the first two innings. In the third, the Cardinals plated the first two runs of the game courtesy of a two-RBI double by Brayden Evans to put Lamar up 2-0.
The score remained the same until the top of the fifth when the 'Jacks cut the deficit in half. Jackson Benattar would reach on an error to begin the inning and then advance all the way to third via a stolen base and wild pitch. He then scored when Kevin Duran reached on a second error in the inning by Lamar, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Cardinals.
Lamar would extend the lead in the bottom half of the inning, putting them up 3-1. Despite this, Lumberjacks starter Hayden Tronson proved effective, throwing six innings and only allowing three earned runs. He struck out three.
The score would stay the same until the top of the eighth when the 'Jacks put up another run courtesy of a bases-loaded walk by Dalton Mullins, scoring Mark Henning. Despite still having the bases loaded with only one out, the 'Jacks could not score the tying run in the inning. The Lumberjacks loaded the bases once more in the bottom of the ninth, but could not come through, losing to the Cardinals 3-2.
Chris Olivier (2-0) was the winning pitcher, while Hayden Tronson (0-3) took the loss.
