
Head Coach Debbie Humphreys Secures Her 800th Career Victory as SFA Completes Reverse Sweep Over Boise State

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- Stephen F. Austin defeated Boise State 3-2 to secure Debbie Humphreys' 800th career win. The Ladyjacks completed the reverse sweep over the Broncos in the first match of the Lumberjacks Classic and won their third straight five set match.
Boise State started off on a 6-0 run in the first set. The 'Jacks fought back to cut the lead down to five, 12-7. Each team alternated three point runs, Boise had two separate runs while SFA had one to extend the Broncos lead to 18-10. Later in the set, the Broncos held onto a 23-18 lead when SFA went on another mini three-point run to cut the lead down to two 23-21. Boise State won two of the three final points to take a 25-22 first set win. The Broncos also started off hot in the second set with a 5-2 run. Points were traded back and forth until SFA went on a mini run to make it 10-9. The 'Jacks continued to fight the rest of the set and forced extras after the set was tied at 24. SFA took the first point in extras, but Boise scored three-points in a row to take a 27-25 set two win. With their backs against the wall, SFA went on a 6-0 run early in the third set to take an 11-6 lead. Later on, the 'Jacks scored five consecutive points to extend their lead to 18-8. SFA finished off the third set on a 7-4 spurt. The momentum was all on the 'Jacks side as they jumped out to a 10-3 lead in the fourth set. Points continued to be traded as SFA held onto their lead and went on a four-point spurt to grow their lead to 24-13. Boise State attempted to mount a comeback by scoring four consecutive points, but that was squashed by an Izabella Ortiz kill that sent the match to its fifth set. The Ladyjacks won the coin toss and served the first point in the final set. With Jayden Flynn at the service line, the 'Jacks won four straight points fueled by kills from Ielan Bradley and Alleah Dallas. The Broncos fought back but were down by four a majority of the set. A kill by Ortiz secured the 'Jacks sixth win in a row and Head Coach Debbie Humphreys' 800th career win.
The offense for the 'Jacks was led by the three-headed monster of Ariana Pagan, Ielan Bradley and Ortiz. Pagan and Bradley each recorded 17 kills which is a career high for Pagan, and Ortiz recorded 14 kills. Haley Hoang led the team with 27 digs, followed by Pagan who recorded another double-double with 16 digs. Jayden Flynn tied her career high with 34 digs, followed by Maddy Bourque with 22. Alleah Dallas once again led the block party with eight, followed by five from Bradley and four from Ortiz.
This victory secured Coach Humphreys' 800th career win which makes her the fourth active coach and the 20th Division I of all-time to reach this milestone. She is one of two active coaches to achieve 800 wins at one institution, only behind Mary Wise who is currently the head coach at Florida.
The 'Jacks will be back in action tonight to face off against host NAU at 9:30 p.m. central time.
