
SFA Wins the Battle of the 'Jacks in Straight Sets

FLAGSTAFF, Ariz.- Stephen F. Austin defeated Northern Arizona in three sets Friday night for their second win of the Lumberjack Classic.
SFA jumped out to a 5-2 lead but NAU fought back and tied the set up at eight. With the Ladyjacks holding a slim 11-10 lead, SFA rattled off six points to extend their lead to seven, 17-10. SFA finished off the first set on an 8-3 spurt to secure a 25-13 victory. The second set was contested for the first nine points as NAU held a 5-4 lead, but SFA rattled off a whopping 11 points in a row to take a 15-5 lead. Points were traded back and forth for the rest of the set, but the Ladyjacks held their lead and took the second set by a score of 25-15. SFA went on a 4-1 spurt to start the third set and continued to hold their lead as points were traded between the teams. The Ladyjacks finished the set on a 6-1 run to sweep the Lumberjacks with a 25-18 third set victory.
Ielan Bradley led the offense for SFA with 14 kills, followed by Izabella Ortiz who recorded 11. Ariana Pagan was one kill off of her second double-double of the day with nine kills and she led the team with 15 digs, followed by freshman Caroline Kahle who recorded nine in her first collegiate start. Jayden Flynn led the team in assists with 24 followed by Maddy Bourque who recorded 15 and is adding to her career assist total as she chases Terri Sherrill for seventh on the all-time assists list at SFA. Kyanna Creecy and Bradley led SFA with two blocks each.
SFA will face off against undefeated Arizona State on Saturday, September 9th at 1:00 p.m. central time as they look to hand the Sun Devils their first loss of the season and extend their win streak to eight matches.
