NACOGDOCHES, Texas- Stephen F. Austin defeated Utah Valley 3-1 on Saturday afternoon. With this win, the Ladyjacks have clinched at least a share of the WAC regular season championship and have extended their home winning streak to 28 which is the longest active streak in NCAA Division I.
The first set was tightly contested in the beginning, but the 'Jacks went on two four-point spurts which allowed them to take a commanding 16-9 lead. SFA ended the first set on a 6-0 run fueled by two service aces by Izabella Ortiz as they secured a 25-13 first set victory. The second set followed the back-and-forth trend as neither team held a commanding lead until the Ladyjacks went on a 5-0 spurt that started with three back-to-back kills from Ielan Bradley and took a 15-7. SFA continued to hold their lead as they won five of the last eight points as they took a 25-18 second set victory. In the third set, SFA jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The 'Jacks continued to grow their lead to 16-10, but the Wolverines came storming back with a 5-0 run to cut the lead down to one. Later on UVU took the lead after a four-point spurt put them up 22-20. Points were traded back-and-forth as neither team was able to secure a 25 point set victory, so we went into extras. Utah Valley was able to hold serve several times late in the set which allowed them to secure a 31-29 third set victory and force a fourth set. Both teams fought for each point in the fourth set, but the 'Jacks pulled away after a dominating 8-0 run which put them up by nine points, 14-5. Utah Valley would not go down without a fight as they mustered a four and three-point run to keep the match close, but it was too little too late as the Ladyjacks pulled away with a 25-18 fourth set victory to secure their 14 consecutive win and remain undefeated in WAC play.
SFA led UVU in points (81-61), kills (59-49), aces (10-5), blocks (12-7), assists (53-48), digs (74-64), and hitting percentage (.304-.160). Senior Ielan Bradley continued to lead the Ladyjack offense with 18 kills, followed by Ortiz and Camryn Hill who recorded 10. Hill notched her fifth double-double this season with 10 kills and a career-high 21 digs. Haley Hoang followed with 15 digs along with 12 from Ariana Pagan and Jayden Flynn recorded 11. Flynn recorded her fifth double-double with 11 digs and 29 assists. Senior Maddy Bourque followed Flynn with 17 assists. Ortiz and Kyanna Creecy led the team with four blocks each, followed by Tanishua Joseph, Bradley, and Pagan who each recorded three.
After the match six seniors were honored; Alleah Dallas, Ariana Pagan, Ashley Procious, Haley Hoang, Maddy Bourque, and Ielan Bradley were all honored for their outstanding performances during their time as SFA Ladyjacks.
