
Ladyjacks Remain Undefeated in WAC Play and Secure No. 1 Seed in the Conference Tournament

PHOENIX, Ariz.- Stephen F. Austin defeated Grand Canyon 3-1 for their 15th consecutive victory and win the WAC Regular Season Title outright.
SFA jumped out in front early on with a six-point spurt which brought their lead up to 9-3. GCU attempted to mount a comeback with several three-point runs, but SFA won the final four points of the set and secured the first set victory off of an ace from Izabella Ortiz, 25-17. The second set was more contested as neither team held a lead larger than two points until SFA went on a 5-0 run late in the set to take a commanding 22-18 lead. The Lopes won five of the last eight points, but the Ladyjacks were able to secure a 25-22 second set victory. GCU flipped the script in the third set as they quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead. The 'Jacks fought their way back, but the Lopes went on two four-point spurt that helped push them to a 25-18 third set victory. The fourth set began similar to the first set as the 'Jacks had an early five-point spurt which gave them a 7-4 lead, but the Lopes countered with their own five-point run to give them a slim 9-7 lead. Points were traded back-and-forth, but SFA was able to secure two three-point runs which carried them to a 25-22 fourth set victory and secured the number one seed in the WAC Tournament which starts next week.
SFA led GCU in points (75-67), kills (61-51), aces (6-5), assists (57-49), digs (72-58), and hitting percentage (.252-.238). Three Ladyjacks recorded double-digit kills, led by WAC Player of the Week Ielan Bradley who recorded 16, followed by Ortiz and Tanishua Joseph who each recorded 12. Both Jayden Flynn and Maddy Bourque recorded double-doubles in this match. Flynn recorded her sixth double-double with 27 assists and 10 digs, while Bourque recorded her second double-double of the season with 24 assists and 10 digs. Flynn and Bourque were two of the five 'Jacks who recorded double-digit digs. Haley Hoang led the way with 19 digs followed by Ariana Pagan and Camryn Hill who each recorded 13. At the net, freshman Kyanna Creecy led the nation-leading blocking team with five blocks, followed by Joseph who recorded three.
The Ladyjacks will play their final game of the regular season in Riverside, California as they face off against the California Baptist Lancers on Saturday, November 11th at 3:00 p.m. central time.
