
High Stakes Showdown: Ladyjacks Meet Lopes in WAC Championship Match in Battle of Top Teams

OREM, Utah. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks Volleyball team find themselves in a familiar position against a familiar foe on Saturday night as they will be playing for their second consecutive WAC Championship Title against the GCU Lopes.
Ladyjacks at a Glance:
The Stephen F. Austin women's volleyball team begins the final stop of their WAC Title defense as they draw a matchup with Grand Canyon University who finished second in the WAC regular season standings behind SFA. The Ladyjacks will be looking to win their second consecutive WAC Championship after defeating the host Utah Valley in the semifinals 3-1. In their match against Utah Valley, SFA led in points (84-71), aces (5-3), assists (65-54), kills (72-56), and digs (66-64).
WAC Player of the Year Ielan Bradley showed everybody why she was deserving of that award and a spot on the All-WAC First Team. Bradley led all 'Jacks players with a whopping 22 kills, which was her second game this year with over 20 kills. Three other Ladyjacks finished with double-digit kills as standout freshman Tanishua Joseph followed Bradley with 13 kills while Izabella Ortiz and Camryn Hill each recorded 10 kills. Hill tallied her sixth double-double of the season as she finished with 10 kills and 11 digs. Jayden Flynn and Maddy Bourque continue to dish out assists at will as Flynn led the team with 31 assists while Bourque followed behind with 21, continuing to provide unparalleled consistency for the Ladyjack offense. Haley Hoang was a defensive menace against the Wolverines as she led the team with an impressive 24 digs, which was followed by Hill's 11. Izabella Ortiz continued her dominant season at the net as she led the team with four blocks while Alleah Dallas, Ariana Pagan, and Tanishua Joseph each had a pair of blocks.
The Ladyjacks had a plethora of players receive well-deserved recognition at the conclusion of the regular season. Ielan Bradley received a well-deserved WAC Player of the Year award while also earning a spot on the All-WAC First Team. Meanwhile Izabella Ortiz concluded her dominant sophomore season by joining Bradley on the All-WAC First Team. Haley Hoang earned a spot on the All-WAC Second Team after her impressive season on defense this season for the Ladyjacks. Meanwhile, the dynamic freshman duo of Tanishua Joseph and Kyanna Creecy showcased how bright the Ladyjacks future is as both earned a spot on the All-WAC Freshman Team. To conclude the awards, Head Coach Debbie Humphreys received the most deserving award of all after she was named WAC Coach of the Year as she led the Ladyjacks to a perfect 16-0 conference record, a 27-3 overall record, and their first ever WAC Regular Season Championship. Coach Humphreys also surpassed 800 wins this season, making her the 17th coach to ever achieve that remarkable feat, while being only one of two active coaches to win all 800 games with one institution.
Lopes at a Glance:
The GCU Lopes find themselves in the WAC Champsionship Match after completing a pair of impressive sweeps against both the CBU Lancers and the UTRGV Vaqueros. Those two sweeps marked the first time in GCU volleyball history that the team has swept both the quarterfinal and semifinal games in the WAC tournament to advance to the championship match. In their semifinal match against UTRGV, GCU led points (55-48), kills (39-38), and blocks (13-6).
Tatum Parrott and Klaire Mitchell continue to power GCU to wins as they have formed a formidable duo for the Lopes. Mitchell recorded her 11th double-double of the season against UTRGV as she led the team with 32 assists and posted 10 digs on top of that. Meanwhile, Tatum Parrott posted her fifth double-double of the season as she led the team with 15 kills and was second on the team in digs with 11. Parrott was the only GCU player to record double-digit kills, while Mitchell was the only GCU player to have double-digit assists.
Klaire Mitchell and Tatum Parrott received well-deserved recognition at the conclusion of the regular season as both received impressive awards. Klaire Mitchell was named WAC Setter of the Year as she surpassed the 4,000-assist mark earlier this season and is the current all-time assist leader for GCU. In addition to being named WAC Setter of the Year, Mitchell also received a spot on the All-WAC First Team as she is currently only the second active player in the nation to have more than 4,400 kills and 1,100 digs in Division I play. Tatum Parrott earned a spot on the All-WAC First Team as a sophomore as she led GCU in kills with 264 this season and had nine matches this season where she had a hitting percentage over .300. Parrott is no stranger to these awards as last season, she was named to the WAC All-Freshman Team and was the only freshman to be on the All-WAC First Team last year.
Series: This will be the sixth time these two powerhouse schools meet each other in volleyball. These two schools have met twice this season, which saw SFA claim a 3-0 sweep at the Pressure Cooker early in conference play before traveling to GCU at the end of the season and defeating the Lopes 3-1 on their home court.
