WICHITA, Kan.- Stephen F. Austin (0-2, 0-0 Southland) fell to Idaho State (1-0, 0-0 Big Sky) in a 3-1 loss and was defeated by Wichita State (1-0, 0-0 American) in straight sets, 0-3, on Friday at Charles Koch Arena.
Game 1: Idaho State 3, SFA 1
SFA established an early lead in the opening set, capitalizing on multiple attack errors by the Bengals. Despite kills from Ava Brickner and Isabella Beatty for Idaho State, SFA maintained control. Katherine Holtman secured the final point with a kill from Madi Zorn, concluding the set 25-20 in favor of SFA.
In the second set, Idaho State capitalized on early errors by Avery Koonsen, establishing a 3-0 lead, bolstered by a service ace from Nora Waddoups. SFA responded with points, including two consecutive service aces from Zorn, leveling the score at 3-3. Later in the set, Creecy recorded a free ball kill to cap off a 3-0 run for the Ladyjacks that cut the lead to one, 17-16. The teams traded points, with Jordan Henderson's kill tying the score at 23-23. However, the Bengals regained the lead with a kill from Jaydin Watts and secured the set victory, 25-23, after an attack error by Koonsen.
The Bengals took control of the third set, securing a 25-17 victory. Tana Howard led Idaho State with multiple kills, including the decisive point from an Aspen Boice assist. SFA's Kennedy Jones and Koonsen managed several successful attacks, with Jones registering a kill to bring the score to 17-24 before Howard's final kill ended the set. Despite SFA's efforts, including a late rally attempt, the Bengals maintained a steady lead.
In the fourth set, Idaho State capitalized on early SFA errors to establish a 2-0 lead, with Mia Walsh contributing through kills. Holtman and Zorn responded for SFA, but the Bengals' defense held firm, widening their lead to 16-9 after a series of SFA attack errors. Kyanna Creecy helped SFA close the gap to 20-18 with multiple kills and blocks alongside Lara Gilardi, as the Ladyjacks went on a 7-0 spurt. However, Idaho State regained momentum with key plays from Waddoups and Ashlyn Smith, ultimately securing the set and match with a 25-18 victory.

Despite a brief rally from SFA, including a block by Kyanna Creecy and Kennedy Jones, the Shockers extended their lead to 14-9. The set concluded with a 25-16 victory for the Shockers, as Olivia Cohee and Maddie Wilson's block secured the final point.
SFA and the Shockers engaged in a closely contested second set, with neither team maintaining a significant lead throughout. Caroline Kahle and Avery Koonsen kept SFA in contention with timely kills. Madi Zorn contributed significantly with a service ace and multiple assists, aiding SFA in reaching an 18-18 tie. Maddie Wilson's decisive kill, assisted by Jordan Heatherly, brought the Shockers to set point, and a subsequent service error by SFA gave the Shockers the 25-23 set victory.
