NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin and Tarleton State split its series opener, with the Ladyjacks winning the opener 4-1 and dropping game two 4-2.
SFA improved to 24-19 and 14-3 in WAC play, while Tarleton fell to 27-18 and 12-8 in conference play.
The Ladyjacks jumped on the Texans in the first inning.
Mackenzie Bennett and Lexi Benson each delivered RBI singles, while Sydnee Hebert scored on an error and SFA led 3-0.
Camryn Middlebrook added an RBI single in its part of the sixth inning.
Kassidy Wilbur (18-9) tossed a complete game. The senior scattered seven hits, allowed one run (unearned) and walked two batters while striking out seven.
Middlebrook batted 2-for-4, while Bennett, Benson, Sydney Carithers, and Hope Lusk each added a hit.
In game two, Lusk batted 3-for-3 and Benson added two RBI.
SFA and Tarleton complete the series Saturday at noon.
