No. 12 SFA To Face No. 5 Georgia Tech in First Round

SAN ANTONIO, Texas --
The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (24-2, 14-0 SLC) earned an automatic bid to the 2021 NCAA Division 1 Women's Basketball Championship in San Antonio, Texas after capturing the Southland Conference Championship last week, and will take on No. 5 Georgia Tech (15-8, 12-6 ACC), an at-large bid out of the ACC. The first-round matchup is set for Sunday, March 21 at 3:30 CT on ESPNU.
The Ladyjack program is no stranger to the Madness, making its 17th appearance in the NCAA Tournament this season, and its first since 2006. SFA is 10-16 all-time in the Big Dance with its last win taking place in 2000 when No. 11 seed SFA knocked off No. 6 seed Xavier, 73-72 in the first round. SFA has made a total of nine Round of 32 appearances as well as five forays into the Sweet Sixteen, with the last coming in 1996.
SFA finished the regular season ranked No. 19 in the NCAA Division I Women's Basketball NET Rankings, where the Ladyjacks have been in the Top 25 in this poll for consecutive weeks as well. For the week of March 15, SFA received a season-high 35 votes, only behind Iowa in the RV section.
The Ladyjacks are ranked No. 1 among all NCAA Division I women's basketball in total steals (353). Not only have the 'Jacks been able to execute on the defensive end, but they are No. 2 in scoring margin (30.4), No. 4 in field goal percentage (49.0), No. 3 in turnover margin (8.38), No. 2 in steals per game (13.6), and No. 5 in scoring defense (50.9).
