Ladyjacks get nine strikeouts from freshman righty Kassidy Wilbur, freshman Alex Hedspeth cranks third long ball in road battle at Southeastern Louisiana
HAMMOND, La. – Freshman right-handed pitcher Kassidy Wilbur tossed nine strikeouts in a complete game and fellow freshman right fielder Alex Hedspeth launched her third dinger of 2019 in a decisive game three with Southeastern Louisiana at North Oak Park in Hammond, Louisiana, Saturday afternoon. The Ladyjacks (13-11, 1-2 Southland) lined six hits in the contest and tied things up at 1-1 in the top of the fifth, but the host Lady Lions (13-10, 2-1 Southland) used a two-run bottom fifth inning to take the Southland Conference opening series, 3-1.
After just three combined hits through the opening inning and a half of play, the host team got on the board in the bottom of the second. A leadoff single from third baseman Mima Doucet preceded an Ali McCoy double, before Doucet then reached home plate on a wild pitch to give Southeastern Louisiana a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, first baseman Rebecca Skains reached on a Ladyjack fielding error, allowing Rizzo to score unearned for Southeastern Louisiana's final run of the day.
Unable to get anything going in the top of the sixth, SFA got a one-out single to right field from sophomore second baseman Bryana Novegil in the top of the seventh and had two base runners on after Hedspeth was walked. Senior first baseman Margarita Corona then reached on a fielder's choice to put runners in the corners with two outs, however, a groundout ended the game.
Senior third third baseman Lauren Becker went 2-for-3 at the plate, while Hedspeth finished 1-for-2 with an RBI, a run score and a walk. Wilbur (7-8) took the loss inside the circle after allowing two earned runs in the full six innings.
