SFA adds fourth member of 2018-19 freshman class
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin women's basketball head coach Mark Kellogg has further bolstered his team's roster ahead of the 2018-19 season, per a signing announced on Thursday. The Ladyjacks have added 6'0" guard Stephanie Visscher to the team after she completed her time spent playing in the EEYBL (Eastern European Youth Basketball League). The versatile guard comes to Nacogdoches from BG Lulea (Lulea Basketgymnasium), the same organization where current Ladyjack Lovisa Brunnberg played while back in Sweden.
"We are really excited to add Stephanie to our roster next season," said Kellogg. "Stephanie is a long and versatile guard that can play several different positions. She is naturally a point guard and her size and length will allow us to be creative with our lineups. She can get out and score in the open court, shoot it from distance, post up and score at mid-range. She is a coach's kid, so her IQ and court vision are exceptional. She rebounds really well for a guard and defensively is always a pass ahead. Stephanie is a fantastic student in the classroom and will fit in perfectly with our team."
While with BG Lulea, Visscher received numerous accolades for her performance, including team MVP awards in all four seasons, a spot on the EEYBL All-Star Team and a chance to play for the Swedish U18 National Team, earning Player of the Game honors in a matchup with Finland. The guard has proven to be a multi-category contributor for Lulea, averaging 13.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 3.2 steals and 2.4 assists per game, while converting on 50.4 percent of her attempts from the floor and 29.7 percent from beyond the arc.
A dual citizen of Sweden and the United States, Stephanie comes from a basketball pedigree by virtue of her parents, both of whom played the sport. Her father, David Visscher, played collegiately at Brown and the University of Florida, and now coaches Stephanie at BG Lulea.
Visscher joins a Ladyjacks squad that is trending upwards after the third season under Kellogg. The Ladyjacks secured 25 wins for the second straight season in 2017-18, advanced to a second straight Southland Conference Tournament championship and earned the program's fifth WNIT bid to continue play into the postseason. Visscher joins a three-woman freshman class already in place for the Ladyjacks in 2018-19, with Aiyana Johnson, Brianna Mitchell and Heaven Hamling set to join her on the hardwood.
