Amber Landry Named Southland Conference Hitter of the Week

Ladyjack senior third baseman hit .500 over the weekend with four RBI and four extra-base knocks

FRISCO, Texas – Leading the Stephen F. Austin softball team to a pivotal Southland Conference home series win over McNeese, senior third baseman Amber Landry has been named Southland Hitter of the Week, the league office announced Monday afternoon.
The Ponchatoula, Louisiana, native went 5-for-10 at the plate with four RBI and three runs scored as the Ladyjacks' top performer behind the plate in the three-game set with the visiting Cowgirls. Landry was a big reason why SFA was able to recover from a 5-0 opening game loss to McNeese Friday night and sweep Saturday's doubleheader for the Ladyjacks' sixth-straight Southland series win and seventh of the season.
In game two of the series Saturday, Landry went 4-for-4 with four RBI, scoring twice and stealing a base to aid SFA to a 11-8 victory. She smacked two doubles in the game, including a two RBI double in the fourth inning, in addition to rocking a two-run home run over the left field fence in the sixth that put the Ladyjacks ahead 11-8 for good.
Landry completed the series by knocking in a leadoff double in the fourth inning of game three, her hit setting up an RBI double that scored SFA's first run of the contest. It proved to be crucial as the Ladyjacks trailed 3-0 at the time before going on to win the game 4-3.
Landry becomes the second Ladyjack to earn Southland softball player of the week accolades this season, joining senior right-hander Makayla Sikes who was named Southland Pitcher of the Week on March 26. Monday's Southland Hitter of the Week acclaim for Landry is SFA's first since April 4, 2016, when first baseman Brittany Lewis claimed the honor.
Southeastern Louisiana's Rachel Hayes was tabbed as Southland Pitcher of the Week after going 2-0 in the circle with a 0.00 earned run average and nine strikeouts in 14 innings of work.
