
Parker Earns First Team All-Conference Accolades; Four Ladyjacks Named to All-Conference Teams

Four Ladyjacks recognized with various conference honors

FRISCO, Texas – For the fifth time in as many seasons, the Stephen F. Austin women's basketball team has placed an athlete on the Southland All-Conference First Team, per a release from the conference office on Monday. Senior Stevi Parker received First Team accolades for the first time in her career, and was also named to the All-Defensive Team, headlining a group of four Ladyjacks in total to receive conference honors.Classmate Taylor Jackson and junior Chanell Hayes were both recognized as All-Conference Honorable Mentions per the release, while junior transfer Imani Johnson was named as the Southland Conference Newcomer of the Year.
A native of Bixby, Oklahoma, Parker was picked as a Preseason Second Team selection heading into the season, but has posted strong numbers throughout the campaign and brings home a much-deserved First Team placard. Parker was also recognized for her work on the defensive end, being named to the five-member All-Defensive Team for the first time in her career. She has posted 11 double-doubles this season, has scored in double-figures in 20 games, and has notched double-digit rebounding efforts in 12 games. On the defensive end, Parker was second in the Southland Conference in defensive rebounds with 210, registered 11 multi-steal games, and took a team-high 30 charges as well.
Parker etched her name in the Ladyjacks record books earlier this season when she became the 32nd 1,000-point scorer in program history, and has a chance to do so one again as she closes in on the program's top ten list for career rebounding. Parker needs just 12 more rebounds to take over the tenth spot on the list with 820 career rebounds.
Making their first appearances on the Southland All-Conference team as Honorable Mentions was the duo of Chanell Hayes and Taylor Jackson. Hayes, a junior from Texarkana, Texas, ranks second behind Parker on the Ladyjacks in scoring, as she averages 11.7 points per game. She has scored in double-digits in 19 games this season, has 15 multi-steal games, and has hit multiple three-pointers in 11 contests this season, tying for the team lead with 39 made trifectas.
Jackson, a native of Frisco, Texas, has performed admirably for SFA while effectively playing out of position at the point guard spot. The senior has tallied 15 double-digit games, including three of 20+, on the way to a 10.2 points per game average. She has also tallied multi-steal games 11 times this season, has a team-high 73 assists on the season, and has sank multiple three-pointers in nine games this season.
Johnson earns the first Southland Conference superlative of her career after being named the Newcomer of the Year on Monday. A transfer from Southeast Missouri State, Johnson played in 28 games and started 26, averaging 7.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game during the regular season. She posted five double-digit efforts, including a 20-point game against Southeastern Louisiana.
All-conference teams and individual awards are nominated and voted upon by the conference's head coaches and sports information directors. Voting for oneself or one's own players/coaches is not permitted. To receive honorable mention, a player must appear on at least 25 percent of ballots.
The Ladyjacks ended the regular season as the number two seed, and as such have earned a double bye into the tournament semifinals. There, they await the matchup with the winner of the quarterfinal game between #3 Central Arkansas and the winner of #6 Abilene Christian/#7 New Orleans.
