LEADOFF HITS
• In search of their first wins of the 2018 campaign, the Stephen F. Austin baseball team heads north to Arlington, Texas, for a rare two-game, Sunday-Monday series at UT-Arlington. Game one at Clay Gould Ballpark is set for 5:00 p.m. Sunday and the two squads will conclude their set at 1:00 p.m. Monday afternoon at the same location.
• SFA is winless through its first five games of the season for the first time since 1991 and is in the midst of a 10-game stretch of games away from Nacogdoches to begin the season.
• Originally, SFA was supposed to host UT-Arlington, Bradley, Southern Miss and South Dakota State in a three-day tournament at Jaycees Field in Nacogdoches, but heavy rains over the last three days rendered SFA's home field too soaked to play.
• Through their first five games, the 'Jacks' power has been on display. SFA has belted five home runs so far this season - a total which leads the 13-team Southland Conference and ranks 24th among all NCAA Division I baseball teams.
• Both Seth Campbell and Trevor Kiminski - the 'Jacks' starting pitchers for their two-game series at UT-Arlington - are searching for their first triumphs of 2018. Additionally, they are hoping to reverse an early trend of issuing walks and hitting opposing batters.
• SFA ranks second nationally having hit 17 batters through five games. Additionally, the 'Jacks have walked a total of 42 batters - an average of 8.4 per game.
• The longest start by an SFA starting pitcher so far this season has been four innings. The individual behind that start was freshman left-hander Dru Dziedzic and aside from his four-inning start no SFA arm has lasted more than 3.2 frames.
• Offensively, freshman outfielder Jared Martin has been a bright spot for the 'Jacks through his first week of collegiate baseball. Martin, who has started all five games for SFA, leads SFA in batting average (.368) and on-base percentage (.455). Additionally, his seven hits, two doubles and three multi-hit games are team-bests as well.
• Sophomore designated hitter Skylar Black has a hit in each of the 'Jacks' last four games, leads the squad with four RBI and is the only player on the roster with a double, a triple and a home run.

• Picked for a runner-up finish in the Sun Belt Conference's west division in 2018, the Mavericks have also watched the inclement weather that has overtaken Texas in the last few days wipe out at least one of their games. UT-Arlington was originally supposed to play at TCU Tuesday before bad weather forced the postponement of that game.
• In their only series of the season so far, the Mavericks took one out of three against Southland Conference adversary Texas A&M-Corpus Christi at Clay Gould Ballpark last weekend. Although both UT-Arlington and Texas A&M-Corpus Christi plated 14 runs in the three-game set, the Mavericks suffered from a lack of timely hits as they stranded 27 runners on the base paths altogether.
• Senior utility man RJ Williams has put together a strong start to his final season of collegiate baseball having collected a team-high five hits en route to a team-best batting average of .417.
• A trio of Mavericks - senior pitcher Trae Patterson, junior catcher Will Olson and senior designated hitter Omar Salinas - were placed on the Preseason All-Sun Belt Team prior to the start of the 2018 campaign.
• Relief man Daniel James was one of a number of NCAA Division I baseball relievers from around the nation who were placed on the NCBWA Stopper of the Year watch list headed into the 2018 campaign.
COMING UP NEXT
• The final leg of the 'Jacks' 10-game stretch away from Nacogdoches to begin the 2018 campaign sends SFA to San Marcos, Texas, for a three-game, non-conference series at former Southland Conference adversary Texas State. The 'Jacks and Bobcats are set to begin the set Friday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. from the confines of Bobcat Ballpark.
