Amber Landry Named to Second Team All-Conference
5/8/2017 12:00:00 AM | Softball
FRISCO, Texas – Eleven schools within the Southland Conference earned at least one selection between the three All-Conference teams. Stephen F. Austin was one of those schools with the selection of junior catcher Amber Landry being named to the Southland All-Conference Second Team.
The junior transfer from Tyler Junior College had a tremendous first season at SFA, earning her the third highest batting average on the team (.290). Landry appeared and started in 47 games this season, 35 of those from behind home plate. She had the second highest hits on the team with 42 hits from 145 appearances. Throughout the season, Landry tallied eight doubles, one triple, and five homeruns. She also registered 17 RBI for a .462 slugging percentage.
In the field, the Ponchatoula, Louisiana native grabbed 146 putouts from the catcher and third base positions. Landry arm was quite dangerous from the catcher’s position to those trying to steal bases. She gunned down 12 runners in stealing attempts, the third best in the conference. She caught eight of those stealing within conference play alone, ranking her second in the league. She fielded over 45 assists and had a .965 fielding percentage through her 47 games.
This is Landry’s first Southland Conference post season award, and after a 17-33 overall record, she is SFA’s lone representative in the 2017 All-Conference teams.
Voting for the 2017 All-Conference teams and awards were conducted by the league’s 13 head coaches and each program’s respective sports information director. All three teams were comprised of a designated player, two pitchers, a utility player, four infielders, and three outfielders. The major awards were voted on separately.
