Ladyjacks Resume Conference Play on Thursday Hosting HBU

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin Softball team will be looking forward to starting their now six-game home stand, after Tuesday’s midweek game against University of Houston was postponed due to the weather. The Houston Baptist Huskies will be coming into town on Thursday for a conference three-game series. The series will start with a doubleheader on Thursday. Game one will have a 1:00 p.m. first pitch with the second game to follow. Friday will feature a single-game starting at 1:00 p.m.
Fans are encouraged to bring their kids to Friday’s game as the SFA Softball team will be giving out Easter eggs to all kids in attendance.
Last season when the Ladyjacks and Huskies faced off, SFA dropped the first two games, but then utilized the long ball routing out the Huskies, 6-1. Senior Brittany Lewis and junior Autumn Holloway each slugged two of the three home runs during the final match. Holloway was 2-for-4 at the plate, swinging an RBI and two runs. Lewis was 1-for-3 at the plate, tallying one RBI and two runs.
Scouting Houston Baptist: HBU recently loss their series 2-1 to Southeastern Louisiana. They split the first day with the Lions, taking a 3-2 win and then losing 2-3 in the second. The final game was decided by a seven run first inning by Southeastern from three singles and a pair of HBU miscues. HBU got on the board in the bottom half of the inning with a bomb by Cecilia Bauer, and then scored again in the third on a Kassie James single to right-center, but the damage was done and HBU lost out 8-2.
Next Up: The Ladyjacks will take the week to get ready to host their final home series of the 2017 season. SFA will face Incarnate Word on Friday, April 21 and Saturday, April 22 , at the SFA Softball Field. The doubleheader will get underway at 3:00 p.m., and then the final game is slated for 3:00 p.m. Saturday.
