Ladyjacks complete their 2018 early signing class with the addition of junior college transfer pitcher Ashley Kriesel
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – After the announcement of seven newcomers to the Stephen F. Austin softball program this past Wednesday, head coach Nicole Dickson and staff announced the signing of Ashley Kriesel Friday morning. The addition of Kriesel completes the 2018 early signing class as the junior college transfer pitcher is the eighth signee.
A native of Houston, Kriesel was a standout inside the circle for the Whitecaps at NJCAA Division I Galveston College last season as a freshman. Posting a 22-12 record, Kriesel struck out 243 batters in 205 and 2/3 innings of work on her way to second-team all-conference honors. She owned a 2.45 earned run average and led Galveston to a 30-24 overall record and a 4-2 upset of top-seeded Tyler Junior College in the opening round of the NJCAA Region XIV Softball Tournament.
Prior to her time at Galveston College, Kriesel was an impressive prep player at Mayde Creek High School, where she was placed on the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 6A All-State Third Team as a senior. Starring both in the circle and at the plate, Kriesel compiled a 2.10 ERA with 307 strikeouts her senior year, while batting .509 and tallying 13 home runs.
"Ashley is a power pitcher who can also swing the bat," coach Dickson said. "As a Freshman at Galveston she dominated and led in strikeouts. Kriesel brings experience to our staff and will have two seasons under her belt pitching at the collegiate level, coming in as a transfer next year. I know she will keep improving throughout her sophomore season with her movement and velocity. She will be one of the top NJCAA pitchers, helping her team compete for a regional championship. I am excited for Ashley to join our SFA family and expect her to come in and be a difference maker in the circle and offensively."
The 2018 season for the Ladyjacks will get underway Feb. 9 when SFA competes in Monroe, Louisiana, taking on UT Martin and UT Chattanooga in neutral site games at 8 a.m. and 10 a.m. as part of the ULM Tournament.
