FRISCO, Texas – As the 2017-18 women's basketball season fast approaches, the release of the Southland Conference Preseason All-Conference Teams saw Stephen F. Austin have one player named to the Second Team. Forward Stevi Parker, a redshirt senior, was named to the Second Team as an automatic selection, due to her appearance on the All-Conference Teams at the end of last season.
Parker was one of ten conference players selected among the First and Second Teams, which contain athletes from seven conference members. Of the ten selections, eight were automatic selections and two were chosen on by the league's coaches.
Parker, a native of Bixby, Oklahoma, returns to the Ladyjacks not only as a veteran leader but also as the starting forward, coming off her most successful statistical season in the 2016-17 campaign. The 6'0 forward started all 33 games for the Ladyjacks, playing an average of 30 minutes a game and notching 11.2 points and 8.6 rebounds. Parker also led the team in minutes, with 1002, as the 'Jacks reached the 25-win plateau in the second season under head coach Mark Kellogg, going 25-8 overall.
Lamar saw three athletes named to the First Team, joined by Randi Brown of New Orleans and Taylin Underwood of Southeastern Louisiana. Filling out the rest of the Second Team alongside Parker was Cassidy Barrios of Nicholls, Cheyenne Brown of Northwestern State and Kierra Jordan and Taylor Baudoin of Central Arkansas, the only team besides Lamar to have multiple players on the Preseason Teams.
The Preseason All-Conference Team Polls will be announced prior to the Southland Conference Basketball Media Day on October 16th, 2017.
